A similar situation happened in this one case. This happened with a customer of SBI. From whose account more than one lakh rupees were withdrawn and transferred without their permission. The matter then reached the Consumer Commission, which ordered the bank to compensate the customer.

The bank had to pay compensation

In this case, the Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered the bank to pay damages to the customer, including refund of ₹1.30 lakh and an additional ₹10,000. Further, since the matter is dated 12th October 2018, the Commission also ordered interest at 6% per annum on the amount from that date.

How was the money withdrawn from the account?

In a single day, four ATM transactions took place from the customer's account, in which ₹80,000 was withdrawn. Apart from this, two separate bank transfers of ₹40,000 and ₹10,000 were also made. A total of ₹1.30 lakh was withdrawn from the customer's account.

CCTV footage of ATM transactions sought

A customer requests CCTV footage of ATM transactions from the bank to identify who withdrew the money. Despite this, SBI could not provide CCTV footage or records related to the transactions to the Consumer Commission.

When did the customer realize this?

When the customer updated his passbook, he noticed that a large amount had been withdrawn from his account a few days back. He then filed a complaint with the bank, which was then forwarded to the Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
