SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026: There’s good news for young people preparing for government bank jobs. The State Bank of India (SBI) has released a notification for the recruitment of clerks, or junior associates. This year, a total of 1,538 positions will be filled. The application process began on August 7th, and interested candidates can fill the online form until August 27th, 2026 .
Applications for this recruitment can only be made through SBI’s official career website. It’s important to note that candidates can apply for vacancies in only one state or union territory . Knowledge of the local language of the state in which they apply will also be required.
Preliminary exam may be held in September
The preliminary examination for SBI Clerk recruitment is expected to be held in September 2026. Successful candidates will be eligible to appear for the main examination. The main examination is expected to be held in October or November. Selected candidates will then be required to take the Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT).
The preliminary exam will be of one hour duration.
The preliminary examination will be conducted online. It will consist of objective questions carrying a total of 100 marks, and the time allotted for completing the paper will be one hour. The exam will consist of three sections. There will be negative marking for incorrect answers. One-quarter of the mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
If a candidate has not studied the prescribed local language of that state in 10th or 12th, he/she will have to pass the local language proficiency test before appointment.
Who can apply?
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university can apply for the SBI Clerk position . Students in their final year or final semester of graduation can also apply, subject to the prescribed criteria.
Applicants must be between 20 and 28 years of age. According to the notification, candidates must have been born between April 2, 1998, and April 1, 2006. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per government regulations.
