Incheon International Airport serving Seoul has surpassed Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands to be named the world’s third busiest international airport in August, according to updates by British aviation analytics firm OAG.
The South Korean airport is scheduled to offer 3.95 million airline seats during the month, a 3% increase from a year earlier.
A sharp rise in foreign arrivals has led to lengthy immigration queues at the airport, with some passengers waiting up to 80 minutes to clear immigration during the peak summer travel season, according to The Korea Times.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which held the third spot in previous months, slipped to fourth place with 3.85 million seats, up 1% year-on-year.
Dubai International Airport retained its position as the world’s busiest international airport in August with 4.54 million scheduled seats but the capacity is 15% lower than in the same month last year.
London Heathrow Airport stands second with 4.26 million seats, a 1% year-on-year decline.
The ranking of the world’s 10 busiest airports is based on scheduled airline seat capacity, using OAG’s standard methodology of comparing equivalent calendar months year-on-year.
