The award-winning player is now ranked at the top of the list with 18 goals.
His remarkable effort in the game led his nation to victory over Austria.
Colombian pop star Shakira was also in attendance at the Dallas Stadium watching the match live.
The Car Parking singer took Instagram to hail Messi’s performance.
Sharing Messi’s picture on her Instagram story, she wrote “So proud of you Leo and of everything you’re accomplishing for your family, your country, and the entire Latino community. Your commitment and dedication are an inspiration to so many. Keep shining!”
When asked in the post presser about his feat, the footballer said he was not thinking too much about past achievements.
