Shilpa Shetty has finally opened up about her energetic Bappa farewell dance, which went viral online and sparked mixed reactions among netizens.
In a recent conversation with HT City on Monday, September 21, the 51-year-old Indian actress explained that the moment was not just about being in front of the cameras but also about celebrating her father as she faced the sadness of saying goodbye.
“Everybody dances. I mean, that’s the norm, right? You have to celebrate Bappa and send him with celebration. And I do it with that heart and that intent only. And while I think it’s also, in a way, trying to camouflage the sadness because it’s a dichotomy of emotions that he’s been at home, and then you have to bid him farewell. You do it in a way that makes him happy and makes your heart happy as well,” Shetty said.
The Ganpati festivities have always been special to her, and this year, the celebrations felt even more meaningful with her in-laws travelling from London.
The heartbeat star added, “This is my seventeenth year. It’s a time to celebrate him. And I do it with unconditional love. It was the first time that my sister-in-law, her children, my father-in-law, mother-in-law were also there.”

Shetty is married to British-Indian businessman Raj Kundra, whom she first met in 2007 when he helped promote her perfume brand following her Celebrity Big Brother win.
Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra dated for two years before getting married on November 22, 2009, in a traditional Khandala ceremony. They went on to welcome son Viaan Raj Kundra in 2012 and daughter Samisha Shetty Kundra via surrogacy in 2020.
