Exactly how much was the rate hike?
Rs.4 for each express shipment and Rs.2 for each surface shipment will be charged more. Direct-to-consumer brands are companies that sell their products directly to consumers without going through wholesalers, distributors or retailers.
Companies like MamaEarth, Boat and Wakefit are D2C brands and run on low margins. 5 to 10 percent increase in delivery cost is likely for 500 gram parcels. As delivery costs increase, these companies can pass the increased cost on to consumers by increasing the retail prices of the products rather than bearing the cost themselves. In an email to customers, Delivery said the hike was due to rising aviation fuel costs, ground staff costs and rising inflationary pressures on the logistics network.

According to Bussiness, this new Delhi delivery surcharge will be added to delivery rates based on weight and distance. The price hike has raised concerns among brands that sell directly to consumers. Companies usually hike rates in October, around Diwali. But this time this decision has been taken ahead of time.
Amazon and Flipkart rates also increased
Ahead of delivery, Amazon and Flipkart have also hiked their rates. Amazon has increased the cancellation charge from 2% of the order value to 10%. Also, the closing fee has also been increased by ₹1 to ₹3. Flipkart has imposed fines ranging from ₹30 to ₹90 for delayed shipments and order cancellations.
