Thane. Shiv Sena (UBT) local leader Pradeep Purnekar was shot dead in Thane, Maharashtra on Tuesday night. The assailants opened fire on him near his office in Manpada-Manoramanagar area. Seriously injured Purnekar was taken to the hospital, where he died during treatment.
It was told that the incident took place in Kapurbawdi police station area at around 9 pm. The attackers were wearing helmets and masks. According to police, Purnekar was hit by two bullets. After the attack the accused fled from the spot.

Pradeep Purnekar was active in Shiv Sena (UBT) as Thane department head. He was present near his office on Tuesday night when the attackers targeted him. After the firing, there was tension in the area and local party workers and people gathered at the spot.
After receiving information about the attack, police secured the incident site and started collecting forensic evidence. Purnekar was taken to the hospital on Ghodbunder Road, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Police are examining CCTV footage
Police have started scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed at the incident site and surrounding roads to find out the identity of the attackers and their escape direction. Major exit routes of Thane have also been blocked and police teams deployed to search for the accused.
At present the reason behind the murder is not clear. The police are investigating the case from different angles including political rivalry and personal enmity. Investigation is ongoing to identify the accused and find out the reason behind the murder.
