‘Show some shame and courage’, Mahua Moitra’s sharp attack on Yusuf Pathan

Kolkata: The stir in West Bengal politics intensified on Monday when Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra targeted party MP and former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan. He alleged that Pathan is adopting a soft attitude towards the disgruntled group that has emerged within the party. This statement has come at a time when the news of a large group of TMC Lok Sabha MPs adopting a different stand has further fueled discussions about deep differences within the party.

Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra criticized Yusuf Pathan through social media and said that he should respect those who gave him huge support and took him to Parliament. He appealed to Pathan to show political determination and while mentioning his cricket career, he said that just as he had shown courage on the field, he should also adopt a clear stand in politics.

TMC is currently facing one of the most challenging times since its formation. Differences are continuously emerging within the party regarding leadership and organizational direction. Mahua Moitra has earlier also criticized the leaders who raised their voice against the party and had described such leaders as doing politics on the basis of Mamata Banerjee’s popularity.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Pathan has also been at the center of political discussions in recent times. Some media reports had claimed that the party leadership had tried to persuade him to leave the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat so that a big leader could be fielded from there in the future. However, different reactions came from different parties regarding these claims and the concerned names also rejected such news.

Yusuf Pathan had registered a big political victory by defeating senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His victory was considered important for TMC as the party had got success in Baharampur seat after a long time.

Meanwhile, reports of discontent within the party intensified as discussions emerged about several Lok Sabha MPs adopting different political stances. It is being told that some MPs are in favor of supporting the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). However, sources associated with the rebel camp say that at present no formal decision has been taken to leave the party and they want to continue their political activities with a separate parliamentary identity.

Differences in TMC assembly unit

On the other hand, differences have also come to the fore in the TMC assembly unit. Some leaders have expressed different opinions regarding organizational leadership, due to which a new debate has started regarding the balance of power within the party. Political analysts believe that the ongoing tussle within TMC can have a big impact on the politics of West Bengal in the coming days.
