After the match, Shreyas Iyer clearly said that his team could not perform as per the planned strategy. He admitted that the pitch was helpful for the bowlers, but the bowlers failed to take advantage of it.
Expressed displeasure over bowling
Iyer said that the seam bowlers were getting adequate support on the wicket and the ball was also taking irregular bounce. Despite this, Punjab bowlers were not successful in maintaining the correct line and length. He admitted that if the bowlers had consistently bowled at the right places, pressure could have been put on Delhi’s batsmen.
The Punjab captain also said that bowling hard length is the most effective option against the new batsman, because it is not easy to hit big shots on such balls. However, his team could not implement its plans properly in the match.
Punjab’s explosive batting
Batting first, Punjab Kings scored 210 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya gave a great start to the team. Both the batsmen batted aggressively against Mitchell Starc and scored 22 runs in the very first over.

Despite the fall of some wickets in the middle order, captain Shreyas Iyer took the responsibility and scored unbeaten 59 runs in 36 balls. In the end, Suryansh Shedge added 21 quick runs and took the team beyond 200. Mitchell Starc and Madhav Tiwari took two wickets each for Delhi.
