Shubhendu Adhikari will be the new CM of West Bengal, approval given in the BJP legislature party meeting

Kolkata, 8 May. Shubhendu Adhikari, a prominent leader of the West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and who defeated Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by more than 15 thousand votes in the Bhawanipur assembly seat, will be the new Chief Minister of the state.

Swearing in ceremony will be held at Brigade Parade Ground on Saturday

Shubhendu’s name was approved in the BJP Legislature Party meeting held here on Friday in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah as a Central Observer. Shubhendu will now take the oath of office and secrecy as Chief Minister on Saturday. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Brigade Parade Ground in central Kolkata at 10 am.

Amit Shah said – Apart from Shubhendu, no other name was proposed.

Announcing the name of Shubhendu Adhikari as the leader of the legislature party, Amit Shah said, ‘I announce the name of Shubhendu Adhikari elected as the leader of the West Bengal BJP Legislature Party. Everyone proposed the name of Subhendu Adhikari, hence I announce the name of Subhendu Adhikari as the leader of the legislature party. He said that apart from Shubhendu, no other name had come as proposal.

‘In Bengal we 321 workers lost their lives

In his address on this occasion, Shah termed the landslide victory in Bengal as a big achievement and said that 321 BJP workers lost their lives in it. An emotional Shah said that he has no words for the immense public support he got in Bengal this time. BJP remained at number one in 20 out of 23 districts. Jhargram, Bankura and Darjeeling seats all went to BJP. He said that I also want to thank the people of Bhawanipur a lot, Shubhendu first defeated Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram and then in Bhawanipur.

BJP government is going to be formed for the first time in Bengal

It is noteworthy that for the first time in the political history of Bengal, BJP government is going to be formed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other Union ministers will be present at the ceremony. Apart from this, Chief Ministers of 20 BJP ruled states are also expected to attend.

Governor Ravi had dissolved the assembly on Thursday

Earlier on Thursday, the formal tenure of the previous West Bengal Assembly ended. Since Mamata Banerjee had refused to resign from the post of CM, Governor R.N. Along with dismissing Mamata’s cabinet, Ravi issued a notification to dissolve the 17th West Bengal Assembly.

However, despite the dissolution of the Assembly, outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has kept her designation as ‘Chief Minister of West Bengal’ on social media platforms. She is still describing herself as the current Chief Minister on platforms like Facebook, Instagram and ‘X’.

It is noteworthy that this time BJP has got a clear majority in West Bengal. The party alone won 207 seats out of 293. In this sequence, the party retained all the 77 seats it won in 2021 and added 130 new seats to its account. Whereas TMC was limited to 80 seats.
