Auto Sales: Bright start for auto sector in April 2026, big jump in two-wheeler sales

Auto Sales: India’s automobile market has started the financial year 2026-27 with an excellent performance. According to the latest report of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), tremendous growth has been recorded in the passenger vehicle, two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments in April 2026. Increasing demand, new model launches and better financing options have given new strength to the auto industry.

Production of more than 29 lakh vehicles
According to SIAM data, a total of 29,22,427 vehicles were produced across the country in April 2026. This includes passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers and quadricycles. Industry experts believe that due to increasing demand in the rural market and easy loan facilities, there is a rise in sales.

Passenger vehicle sales made record
A total of 4,37,312 passenger vehicles were sold in the domestic market in April 2026, while in April 2025 this figure was 3,48,847 units. Thus, an increase of 25.4 percent was recorded in this segment. According to SIAM, this is the highest ever monthly passenger vehicle sales. The increasing popularity of SUVs and premium cars is believed to be a major reason for this.

Strong growth in three-wheeler segment also
Sales of three-wheelers reached 65,668 units in April 2026, which is 32.8 percent more than last year. The highest growth of 45.1 percent was recorded in the sales of goods-carrying three-wheelers. However, there was a slight decline in e-rickshaw sales.

Strong demand for bikes in two-wheeler market
A total of 18,72,691 two-wheelers were sold in the country during April 2026. This is 28.4 percent more than last year. The motorcycle segment recorded the highest growth of 30.6 percent, while scooter sales also saw a jump of 26.2 percent.

The momentum may continue in future also
According to SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon, the demand in the market remains strong. Due to the increasing share of electric vehicles and new model launches, the financial year 2026-27 may prove to be a record year for the auto industry.
