Gyalshing: A major landslide occurred late night in Rimbi village amid heavy rains in Sikkim's Gyalshing district. Suddenly a large amount of debris came down from the hill and spread in the populated area. After the accident, there is an atmosphere of fear among the people living in the area. Information has come to light that more than 30 houses have been affected in this incident. Some media reports said that more than 20 houses and government quarters were washed away. It is a matter of relief that till now there is no news of any casualty.

Government quarters also under debris
Not only private houses were damaged by the landslide, but government houses of the electricity department were also affected. At some places, debris reached houses and other properties. Due to continuous rain, there is danger in other nearby parts also. There was already concern about rain and landslides in Rimbi. As the situation worsened, some families were forced to move to safer places. The situation in the affected areas is being monitored at the local level.
Administration increased surveillance
After the incident, the administration has started assessing the damage. Teams of officials are taking stock of the affected areas and work is being done to restore traffic where debris has accumulated on the roads. Vigilance has been increased in sensitive areas in view of the possibility of new landslides due to continuous rains. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has expressed concern over the situation in Rimbi. He has instructed the officials to remain alert and give priority to the safety of the people. The Chief Minister has also appealed to the local people to be careful during the rains and follow the advice of the administration.
Due to bad weather, the biggest challenge of the administration at present is the safety of the affected families and maintaining connectivity in the landslide areas. Officials are constantly keeping an eye on the situation.
