Singapore Law Minister Calls Poori And Chai Combo In Delhi A Near-Perfect Breakfast

Edwin Tong, Singapore's Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, recently visited Delhi and did not leave without trying his favorite Indian breakfast: poori. While the dish is traditionally eaten with aloo or chhole, especially in Delhi, Tong opted for a rather unique combination, pairing poori with tangy sambar and finishing the meal with masala chai. Taking to Instagram, Tong shared a picture of his breakfast.

In the caption, he wrote, “Back in Singapore today, after a quick, whirlwind trip to Delhi. Managed to get my meetings and all the official work done!”

Talking about his favorite Indian breakfast, Tong added, “Even found time to enjoy my favorite breakfast – the Poori, an unleavened Indian flatbread expertly made from wholewheat flour. Paired with tangy sambar and masala chai – a near-perfect breakfast!”

Many Instagram users were delighted to see the Singapore minister enjoying Indian food. Take a look at some of the comments:

“Breakfast of champions,” one wrote.

“Loving the breakfast, looks delicious,” another added.

“Wonderful to know that you love Indian wheat fluffy ball, best enjoyed with potato kurma,” a viewer said.

One user suggested, “Omg, if you went to Delhi, you should have tried Chole (chickpeas) Puri, that's the actual breakfast of the locals there. How about aloo paratha?”

Edwin Tong is not the only Singaporean official with a liking for Indian food. Previously, Singapore's High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, shared his love for South Indian cuisine. In a post on X, he specifically mentioned appam, saying its taste reminded him of home.
