Singapore’s bakery to close this month after 12 years

Singapore patisserie Pantler, known for its Japanese-French desserts, will close on Aug. 30 after 12 years of operation amid a challenging business environment.

The bakery announced the decision in an Instagram post on Aug. 6, saying it would shut at the end of August unless it found “the right person to continue Pantler’s story,” Channel News Asia reported.

Phua founded Pantler with fellow Grand Hyatt Tokyo and Joel Robuchon Singapore alumnus Tomoharu Morita in Telok Ayer in 2014. The patisserie moved to 474 River Valley Road in 2021.

Pantler’s closure follows a string of established pastry businesses in Singapore that have shut down.

Tarte by Cheryl Koh closed in April after 11 years, while Flor Patisserie shut its final Siglap outlet in July 2025, 15 years after opening its first shop in Duxton.

Singapore saw 1,267 food business closures between January and April this year, nearly half the total number of shutdowns throughout last year.
