Kanpur. The SIT formed to investigate scams in Kanpur Municipal Corporation reached the Municipal Corporation to investigate. Under the leadership of ADCP Dr. Archana Singh, the team took possession of the documents of development works, tenders, payments and firm registration related to the five named firms and other firms from the payment and firm registration office of Chief Engineer SFA Zaidi. During the investigation regarding payments related to Kaila Devi firm.
Some shortcomings came to light in the documents.
The SIT also took photos and printouts of some documents. The team interrogated the Municipal Corporation officials and employees for 5 hours. The SIT had reached the Municipal Corporation at 11:30 in the morning for investigation and the interrogation continued till around 5 in the evening. The SIT also interrogated Chief Engineer SFA Zaidi along with Executive Engineers Diwakar Bhaskar and RK Singh.
Apart from these, necessary documents have also been sought from engineering department employees Bhupendra Singh and Ajay Pandey. The SIT also recorded the video statements of the officers on whose complaint the FIR was registered against the contractors. The officers were also made to sign the prescribed proforma for cooperation in the investigation. There was a situation of panic in the Municipal Corporation due to the action of SIT. The team is now investigating the seized documents and the shortcomings revealed.
Six FIRs were registered on Tuesday. It is being told that after the strictness of the Chief Secretary, action has been intensified in the cases related to Municipal Corporation. On Tuesday, Kanpur Municipal Commissioner has lodged 6 separate FIRs against 7 firms. Police have arrested 2 contractors. While kingpin Govind Sharma is absconding. He is a resident of Agra. Govind Sharma's firm has got the maximum number of contracts. That's where the entire caucus used to run. All the contractors were under his control.
Apart from this, tenders worth about Rs 100 crore were also cancelled. The SIT team is now examining the documents related to payments and registration of firms. Further action will be taken on the basis of the facts revealed in the investigation. The Police Commissioner had given this information in a press conference. Police Commissioner Raghuveer Lal told in the press conference on Tuesday that on the orders of Municipal Commissioner Arpit Upadhyay, the corporation officials gave 5 complaints. On the basis of these, a case has been registered in Swaroopar Nagar police station.
