Sonam Wangchuk Health Update: Wife Gitanjali Angmo put a condition regarding hospital treatment, Delhi Police told the reason for admission.
New Delhi/Digital Desk. The statement of his wife Geetanjali Angmo has come to light after social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police on Saturday. He said that no treatment or medication should be started on Wangchuk without his express permission.
On the other hand, Delhi Police has clarified that this step has been taken in compliance with the advice of expert doctors and the instructions of the Delhi High Court.
What did the wife say?
Speaking to news agency PTI, Geetanjali Angmo said that she is present at Safdarjung Hospital and no medicine or medical treatment should be given to Sonam Wangchuk without her consent.
He also said that no medicine should be given to Wangchuk either orally or intravenously without the consent of the family and the doctors who have been monitoring Wangchuk for the last 20 days. He said that if this happens, the responsibility will be on the parties concerned.
‘There was no need to take him to the hospital’
Geetanjali Angmo claimed that till a day ago, Sonam Wangchuk’s condition was fine and there was no need to take her to the hospital. He said that he is aware of his rights in this regard and treatment should not be started without consent.
What did Delhi Police say?
Delhi Police issued a statement saying that Sonam Wangchuk has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital to provide necessary medical care as per the advice of expert doctors and in compliance with the order of the Delhi High Court.
The police also appealed to the protesters present at Jantar Mantar to end the agitation peacefully and vacate the site.
Wangchuk had talked about continuing the fast
In a video message released on Friday night, Sonam Wangchuk had said that despite her deteriorating health, she was determined to continue her fast. He said that he had lost about 20 percent of his body weight during the hunger strike and now the government should listen to the voice of the youth.
He also said that governments have fallen in the past on issues like onion prices, so issues related to youth should be taken seriously.
Movement continues regarding NEET issue
Sonam Wangchuk is on an indefinite hunger strike in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) agitation going on since June 28. The movement is demanding action in cases of alleged irregularities in the NEET exam and deaths of students related to it.
High Court is monitoring health
The Delhi High Court has directed the Central Government and the Delhi Government to conduct regular medical tests on the health condition of Sonam Wangchuk and to provide her with appropriate medical facilities, if necessary.
