Relief news has emerged for India's leading budget airline SpiceJet, which is facing financial crisis, legal cases and the problem of grounded planes. The airline has achieved significant success in resolving the dispute in the ongoing Insolvency Proceedings in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). After a mutual settlement on the dispute of about ₹ 60 crore with Aircraft Laser Aviator ML, the tribunal has given permission to withdraw the petition. After this development, the airline management has made it clear that its entire focus is now on improving the quality of its flights, getting the grounded planes flying in the sky again and providing better services to the passengers. What was the whole matter in NCLT and how was the matter resolved? Aircraft leasing company Aviator ML had filed a bankruptcy petition against SpiceJet under Section 9 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) alleging non-payment of dues. The tribunal had reserved its final decision in this matter. However, both parties reached an out-of-court amicable settlement and signed a settlement, under which SpiceJet released the initial payment. After this the tribunal gave formal permission to Aviator ML to withdraw his petition. Emphasis on reviving flight services and aircraft fleet. Welcoming the NCLT decision, SpiceJet spokesperson said that this agreement is a very positive and concrete step towards resolving the pending matters. The airline admitted that it has gone through a challenging phase, but now the company is in the process of strengthening its infrastructure. The company's primary objective is to refurbish idle aircraft in its fleet and make them operational, increase connectivity on new routes and improve on-time performance. Challenge of improving passenger confidence and on-time performance SpiceJet's domestic market share had declined in the recent past due to flight cancellations, delays and technical glitches. Now the airline is working on a strategy to regain the confidence of passengers by improving its operational network. Gradual resolution of lease disputes will help the airline maintain smooth operations of its aircraft, thereby increasing the frequency of flights between metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai as well as Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Settlement talks are also going on with other lessors. According to aviation experts, SpiceJet has already successfully made out-of-court settlements with many international lessors like Aircastle, Celestial Aviation and Alterna Aircraft. At present the airline is also continuously establishing positive communication regarding other pending petitions. Speedy resolution of legal disputes will also greatly assist the airline in raising fresh funding and providing financial stability to operations. Regional connectivity will get support in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. SpiceJet has been an important air connectivity option for emerging tourism and business centers like Lucknow, Varanasi, Jaipur, Patna, Ayodhya, Darbhanga and Goa. With the normalization of flights and activation of the fleet, passengers will get more options for cheap and direct flights at these regional airports, which will also help in balancing the pressure of airfares before the festive season.
