Sports News- Will Sri Lanka Cricket Board really be abolished, officials got 1 week’s time?
Friends, the troubles of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board are far from over, the Board is currently facing one of the most turbulent times in its history. The team, once known for its dominance on the international stage, is now grappling with poor performance, administrative disputes and internal strife. The government had to intervene and took a bold and unprecedented decision, let’s know the complete details.
The government has directed the executive committee of Sri Lanka Cricket to step down from its posts by the end of this week. The move comes in response to growing allegations of corruption, poor governance and ongoing controversies within the cricket system.
This decision has also been affected by the team’s disappointing performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Despite playing on their home ground, Sri Lanka failed to progress beyond the Super 8 stage, leading to widespread criticism from fans and former players.
Under chairman Shammi Silva, concerns about mismanagement had been growing for a long time. Issues related to player disputes, including No Objection Certificates (NOC) and IPL fitness clearance, further exposed the cracks within the system.
Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Sunil Kumar Gamage has already held discussions with the Jay Shah-led International Cricket Council (ICC) and sought their intervention. The government is now considering appointing an interim committee to stabilize the situation and implement reforms.
Following the World Cup defeat, former coach Sanath Jayasuriya resigned and Gary Kirsten was appointed as the new head coach. These changes have not reduced the pressure, and demands for radical changes in the entire administrative system are gaining momentum.
