Digital Desk, Mumbai: The Indian stock market will remain closed today, Friday, October 2, 2026, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Trading will be suspended on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) for the entire day.
According to the stock exchange holiday schedule, there will be no trading in the equity segment, derivatives segment or Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segment. Trading in currency derivatives and interest rate derivatives will also remain suspended.
This means investors and traders will not be able to execute trades in these segments during the regular market session. Normal trading is expected to resume on the next scheduled trading day, subject to the exchanges’ calendar.
Gandhi Jayanti is observed every year on October 2 to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The day is a national holiday in India, and several government offices, banks and other institutions generally remain closed. However, the operating status of private offices and other services may vary.
Investors should keep the holiday in mind while planning transactions, managing positions and scheduling trading activities. They can check the official BSE and NSE holiday calendars for the latest updates on trading sessions and settlement-related schedules.
