Lucknow: A surprising case has come to light from Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, where during the examination of a 20-year-old unmarried girl who reached the hospital complaining of stomach ache, the doctors as well as her family members were stunned. The matter was not just a simple stomach ache, but a full-blown pregnancy. The team of doctors in the hospital showed promptness and provided safe delivery to the girl, where she gave birth to a healthy child. However, as soon as the child was born, the atmosphere of happiness was replaced by a new controversy when the girl and her family flatly refused to take the newborn home with them.
Readiness of police and child helpline
According to ASP Shivraj, police received information from CHC Baberu that a 20-year-old girl has given birth to a child, but due to special circumstances she and her family are unable to keep the child. The family formally surrendered the newborn.
The police took the child under protective custody and informed the Child Helpline and Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The newborn is being sent to Banda District Hospital for better care.
The matter reached the police
This entire incident took place in Baberu Kotwali area of Banda district. On September 1, the family took their 20-year-old daughter to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Baberu saying she was suffering from stomach ache. When the doctors did the medical examination of the girl, they found that she was in the last stages of labor and the time for delivery had come. The team of doctors immediately conducted the delivery and the girl gave birth to a healthy baby. But when an attempt was made to hand over the child to the family immediately after delivery, they refused to accept the newborn. Considering the seriousness and social complexities of the situation, the hospital administration informed the local police without any delay. As soon as the information was received, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Banda Shivraj and senior police officers reached CHC Baberu and obtained information about the entire incident from the doctors and family members.
Child surrender action under legal process
According to the police administration, the statutory process of child surrender has been started following the prescribed provisions of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act. Now the Child Welfare Committee and related institutions will decide the further care, protection and rehabilitation of the newborn. At the same time, the local police is investigating the entire matter thoroughly and is trying to find out the circumstances due to which the family had to take such a drastic step.
