Pakistan Swat Suicide Attack: A suicide attack occurred in Swat district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday. According to police, at least seven people were killed and 18 others injured in the blast outside the main entrance of the Kabal police station.
According to the Swat District Police Officer (DPO), the suicide bomber was trying to enter the police station. When on-duty policemen stopped him at the gate and tried to search him, he detonated the explosives strapped to his body.
Area cordoned off, investigation underway
According to the Pakistani newspaper Dawn, police said that security forces cordoned off the area immediately after the incident. The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals, while forensic teams and investigative agencies were collecting evidence from the scene. Police said security agencies were on high alert and additional forces were deployed to deal with any potential threat.
The attack took place during a peace rally.
The blast occurred as a large number of people were demonstrating at Kabal Chowk against the increased terrorist activity in the Swat Valley in recent months. Organized by the local organization Swat Aman Jirga, the rally called for the restoration of security in the region and an end to terrorist violence.
The blast caused panic at the scene, and police, rescue teams, and local authorities launched relief and rescue operations. As of this time, no terrorist organization had claimed responsibility for the suicide attack. Security agencies are investigating the individuals behind the attack and any possible conspiracy.
