Succession and Wonder Man star Arian Moayed could be joining the DCU as a prosecutor. According to @ApocHorsemanMoayed is reportedly being eyed to play the lead prosecutor going up against Gorilla Grodd during his murder trial in DC Studios’ upcoming series, The People v. Gorilla Grodd. The rumor comes after HBO Max officially confirmed Moayed as part of the cast.
The HBO Max comedy series will follow Daily Planet photojournalist Jimmy Olsen as he reopens the trial of Gorilla Grodd to investigate whether the iconic villain was wrongly convicted of murdering his father, King Grodd.
Developed as an eight-part true-crime mockumentary, the show expands the world introduced in James Gunn’s Superman.
Grodd casting hints at the series’ larger DCU story
While ApocHorseman claims that Moayed will play the prosecutor, DC Studios has not officially confirmed anything about his character. His role should be treated as a rumor for now. However, Moayed’s casting in the series is official. HBO Max announced him alongside Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz.
The studio previously confirmed Jimmy Tatro as the voice and performer behind Gorilla Grodd, with Skyler Gisondo starring as Jimmy Olsen. They also separately confirmed that Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, and Wendell Pierce will reprise their Superman roles as Steve Lombard, Cat Grant, and Perry White, respectively.
The series will follow one of Metropolis’ most famous murder trials. Gorilla Grodd was convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. The Daily Planet’s Jimmy reopens Grodd’s case in an eight-part true-crime docuseries to find out if he was wrongly convicted. The show will explore the darker and funnier side of the DCU through Jimmy’s investigation.
The People v. Gorilla Grodd is co-created by American Vandal duo Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault. Yacenda is set to direct all eight episodes, with James Gunn and Peter Safran serving as executive producers for DC Studios.
