The Tamil Nadu government will withdraw all cases filed against students who protested against the NEET paper leak. This decision was taken on the instructions of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. School Education Minister Rajmohan made the announcement on Sunday.
School Education Minister Rajmohan posted on the social media platform ‘X’, “The government has decided to withdraw all cases filed against students in connection with the anti-NEET protests. More information will be provided soon regarding the process of withdrawal of cases and the cases covered by this decision.”
The announcement comes days after massive protests against NEET erupted in several parts of the country, with students and youth organizations expressing concerns about the exam system and demanding changes. Tamil Nadu also witnessed numerous demonstrations, including rallies, flash protests, and other forms of agitation.
Various student organisations and political groups held demonstrations at several places in the state. In Chennai, protesters continued to protest at the Balan Illam, the state headquarters of the Communist Party of India (CPI).
There were also reports of spontaneous protests in some parts of the state. In some places, police had to intervene after protesters blocked roads. Several students were detained during these protests, and cases were filed in connection with some of the demonstrations.
This new announcement by the state government is expected to pave the way for the withdrawal of criminal proceedings related to the anti-NEET protests. Authorities are likely to investigate cases registered at police stations across Tamil Nadu before formally initiating the withdrawal process.
