Target fixed for procurement of urad, moong and groundnut in UP, duration of Rabi crops extended
Amrit Thoughts: There is good news for farmers. The Agriculture Ministry has extended the procurement period for both Rabi and Zaid crops. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Thursday held a virtual review meeting of the Price Support Scheme (PSS) with the Agriculture Ministers of all the states.
UP Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, on special request, has extended the purchase period of Rabi season 2025-26 crops – tur (tur), gram and mustard till June 30. 313 purchasing centers will be active in the state for the purchase of these crops.
NAFED and UCCF are two central agencies doing the procurement. Whereas there are five state level agencies. This includes UPPCU, UPPCF, JAFED, UPSS, and HAFED. Farmers can sell mustard, tur and gram at these purchasing centres.
Along with this, the target has been set for pulses and oilseed crops to be grown in the summer season (2025-26) and marketing year (2026-27). A target has been set to purchase 97,770 metric tons of urad in UP. The support price of urad is Rs 8,200 per quintal. The target of moong procurement is 48,298 metric tons. Its support price has been fixed at Rs 8,780 per quintal. The target for groundnut procurement is 41,718 metric tonnes. Its support price has been kept at Rs 7,517 per quintal.
Two central agencies and five state agencies will purchase urad, moong and groundnut in the state. The procurement process will continue at these purchasing centers for three months i.e. 90 days. Farmers have been called upon to register and sell their crops at the purchase centers at the fixed support price.
