Tatkal ticket booking will now be easier! IRCTC’s New Website Goes Live Tonight, Know What’s Changed?
There is good news for millions of passengers of Indian Railways. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will launch the beta version of its new website from 9 pm tonight. The main objective of the new portal is to make ticket booking faster, easier and more user-friendly. The current beta version is being released to get passenger feedback, so that the final version can be made more effective.
The new website will provide a smoother and faster experience
The IRCTC website was first launched in the year 2002 and today averages over 14.5 lakh tickets are booked through it every day. The website has been modernized keeping in mind the growing online traffic and passenger needs. The new portal has removed unnecessary captchas, pop-ups and distracting graphics. Also, seat availability in all classes can now be viewed on a single screen, eliminating the need to repeatedly navigate to different options.
Checkout will be fast, details will be saved
The new website has reduced the steps in the ticket booking process, to save time especially during Tatkal ticket booking. Passengers will be able to save their personal details like name, age and other information, so that there is no need to re-enter the information every time. These new features will prove especially useful for people who travel regularly. This new design has been prepared based on the suggestions of students of Malviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT).
New reservation engine coming soon
IRCTC has stated that the portal currently being introduced is a beta version and further improvements will be made based on the feedback received from passengers. Also, Indian Railways is also completely upgrading the decades-old Passenger Reservation Engine (PRE). After the launch of this new engine, all ticket booking platforms including IRCTC will work faster. Railways believes that these improvements will provide a better and smoother digital experience to millions of passengers.
