India spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who continues to face a snub, once again proved the team management and selectors wrong after being benched for the three-match ODI series against England. Making his debut for Yorkshire against Glamorgan, he took two wickets in one over, helping his team to register a 2-wicket win in the Royal One-Day Cup 2026.
He recently signed a contract with the county club for List A and first-class matches. Kuldeep was at his best and made a strong impression, bowling 41 dot balls before dismissing two batters in the last over of his spell.
The left-arm spinner gave flight to the ball to invite the batters to go for big shots towards the end of the innings. Alex Horton tried to play a slog sweep but got the top edge and was caught. Jamie McIlroy also departed without troubling the scorers after two balls.

Despite his good track record against the English batters, head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill didn’t include him in the starting XI, giving preference to all-rounders Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel.
Even when Washington was ruled out of the last match due to a hamstring injury, India went in with just five bowlers at Lord’s. The move backfired as England posted 387 for 3 in 50 overs, with Axar being the lone spinner. The pitch was slow and had something for the spinner, but Kuldeep was not considered.

The first phase of Kuldeep Yadav’s contract with Yorkshire will cover five List-A matches in the Royal One-day Cup until August 2. He is expected to play a key role in India’s two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, starting from August 15.
After the end of the tour, he will rejoin Yorkshire for the last three red-ball matches in the County Championship season.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep’s removal has led to angry reactions from former India players, with Mohammad Kaif urging the bowler to retire from international cricket. R Ashwin hit out at the team management and claimed the team management has decided not to select the champion spinner.
Ex-India opener Kris Srikkanth called the move surprising and questioned the repeated absence of one of the best spinners in the world. India are struggling across departments, but there is no place for Kuldeep in the squad.
He was recently traded to Lucknow Super Giants from the Delhi Capitals after just one below-par season in the Indian Premier League.
