Tehran: World leaders gathered at the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, representatives of 100 countries including India and Pakistan arrived.

There is an atmosphere of mourning these days in Iran’s capital Tehran. Leaders from all over the world have reached Tehran to attend the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. A huge crowd is gathering on this occasion and people are bidding their last farewell to their leader.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in an attack by the US and Israel on 28 February 2026. His funeral rituals began on 3 July 2026 at the Grand Mosallah religious complex in Tehran. His family members, including his daughter, son-in-law and 14-month-old granddaughter, were killed in the attack.

After the completion of the rituals in Tehran, his body will be taken to Qom and then to Najaf and Karbala in Iraq. Finally, on 9 July 2026, he will be buried in Mashhad. The administration has warned people to be careful regarding crowd and heat.

Guests arrived from all over the world

According to government information, representatives from about 100 countries have participated in this program. However, America and any European country were not invited in this.

  • Pakistan: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived.
  • India: Union Minister of State Pavitra Bargita and Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain paid tribute.
  • Russia: Dmitry Medvedev came with a large entourage as a special envoy of President Putin.
  • China: He Wei, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, attended.
  • Saudi Arabia: Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al Khairij attended with his team.

Apart from these, officials from Iraq, Qatar, Oman and Tajikistan were also present there. Ayatollah Mujtaba Khamenei has been appointed as the new Supreme Leader, but due to injury he has not yet appeared in front of everyone. President Massoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf were also present on the occasion.
