New Delhi: Bihar bandh was called on Saturday in protest against NEET paper leak and lathicharge on protesting students. During this time there was a lot of uproar in Patna. RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav’s elder son and JJD chief Tej Pratap Yadav was arrested by Patna Police late in the evening from a mall in the city. After the arrest, security has been tightened in many areas of Patna. Police force is deployed after stone pelting at Dak Bungalow intersection.
March took place from Ramgulam Chowk to Dak Bungalow.
Tej Pratap Yadav had reached Ramgulam Chowk in Patna on Saturday morning with students in support of Bihar Bandh. There they sat on strike on the road. Later they started marching with the students towards Dak Bungalow intersection. The police first stopped him near Exhibition Road and detained him and then released him.
In the evening, when Tej Pratap was present in a mall, officers reached there with heavy police force and arrested him again. The police have not yet given the official reason for the arrest. According to sources, this action has been taken on the charges of protesting without permission and disturbing law and order.
Dak Bungalow intersection became a battlefield
Patna’s Dak Bungalow intersection remained the hottest during Bihar Bandh. The protesters broke barricades and threw bricks and stones at the police. Seeing the situation worsening, the police had to use mild force. Many protesters were detained from the spot.
Patna SSP Karthikeya Sharma said, "The protesters pelted stones at the police and tried to break the barricade. Many miscreants have been arrested." To maintain law and order, leaves of police officers have been cancelled. Flag march was taken out in many areas of the city including Paliganj.
Schools closed, politics hot
The administration had ordered closure of all private schools in Patna on Saturday due to security reasons. After the arrest of Tej Pratap, political rhetoric has also intensified. The opposition has "suppress the voice of students" While calling it an attempt, the government says that violence and vandalism will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Protests have been going on in Bihar for the last one week regarding the NEET paper leak. The students are demanding cancellation of the examination and action against the culprits. Saturday’s bandh had received support from several student organizations and political parties. At present, Tej Pratap Yadav has been taken to the police line for questioning. Statements are being taken from them for further action.
