The right-hander made a fluent 103 off 116 balls, hitting 10 fours and 2 sixes, to notch up his fifth ODI hundred as captain and draw level with former skipper Faf du Plessis.
Bavuma's innings came after South Africa had already registered a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against the Kangaroos. His composed innings set the foundation for the hosts to register a good total against their rivals.

One of the major highlights of Bavuma's innings was a 156-run partnership for the fourth wicket with David Miller. The duo set a new record for South Africa's highest ODI fourth-wicket partnership against Australia on home soil.
While Bavuma remained in a composed manner at the crease, facing 116 balls, Miller was aggressive at the other end. As a result, the visitors were able to surpass their previous scores against Australia in limited-overs matches.

In addition to reaching the century mark, Bavuma tied with du Plessis for the most ODI centuries by South Africa captains.
