World-renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja and 10 others are missing after a massive avalanche hit the Broad Peak in Pakistan. The local administration has launched a rescue operation in bad weather. So far, four bodies have been recovered.

The Alpine Club of Pakistan said that after receiving the news of the accident, the local administration and related agencies were contacted. Helicopters and other rescue teams have been sent. The rescue operation is being hampered by bad weather. However, the identities of the two deceased climbers have been revealed. They are Nadhira Al Harthi from Oman and Pur Bahadur Gurung Yukta from Nepal.
One of the 10 climbers is Nirmal Purja. Known to the world as ‘Nimsdai’. He is a British-Nepali climber. In 2019, he set a record by conquering 14 peaks of the world with a height of more than 8,000 meters in just 6 months and 6 days. His feat received widespread international praise. The popular Netflix documentary ‘Forteen Peaks: Nothing is Impossible’ was based on this expedition. As soon as the news of Nirmal’s disappearance came to light, a shadow of grief fell on the mountaineering community. Although the rescue operation is ongoing. The members of the rescue team are not ready to despair right now.
