Even though the time of departure of South-West Monsoon is nearing in the country and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has fixed the date of its withdrawal from Rajasthan from September 19, but amidst all this, a very big news is coming out. A new weather system is going to be active in the eastern, western and central parts of the country, which is all set to start a new round of heavy rains once again. The Meteorological Department says that due to many dangerous weather systems in the coming days, there is every possibility of heavy rains along with thunderstorms in many areas across the country.
New storm rising from Andaman Sea, will move towards Odisha-Andhra coast
According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclonic circulation over northern Thailand has reached the North Andaman Sea by the evening of September 18. Due to its effect, a new low pressure area is expected to form in the North Andaman Sea by the evening of 19 September. After this, this seasonal system may move towards west-northwest direction towards the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh within the next three-four days.
Due to the effect of this new system, the amount of moisture in Chhattisgarh and surrounding areas will increase significantly, due to which there is a possibility of a huge increase in rainfall activities there. IMD has issued a warning of heavy rain at some places in the state during September 22 to 24. Apart from this, there is a strong possibility of light to moderate rain in many parts of the state and lightning along with thunder at some places. This phase will continue for the next two days and from September 19, a major increase in both the extent and intensity of rain can be seen.
How will the weather be in North India?
According to the Meteorological Department, apart from the system near Thailand, a cyclonic circulation is also present in North Gujarat and its surrounding areas at the lower tropospheric level. Due to this, there are strong chances of heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad during September 18 and September 23 to 24, while in many areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between September 18 to 24. During this period, there has also been a warning of storm in the mountains.
Along with this, IMD has said that between 18 to 19 September, there may be rain and thundershowers at some places in Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Delhi, Western Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh, and during 19 to 22 September in East Rajasthan.
It will rain in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Bengal
In Bihar, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with isolated or continuous thunderstorms and lightning at some places during September 18 to 24. However, there is a possibility of heavy rain at some specific places on September 18. According to the department, during the last 24 hours, heavy rainfall of up to 13 cm has been recorded in Pothia of Kishanganj.
Neighboring state Jharkhand will also see light rain and thundershowers on most of the days between September 18 and 23, while on September 24, there is a possibility of heavy rain in a large part of the state. Apart from this, heavy rain may occur in Odisha on September 18 and 23, while in Gangetic West Bengal also, cloudy rain is expected at many places on September 20 and 23.
How will the weather be in Delhi-NCR?
There is a possibility of light rain with thunder and lightning at some places in the capital Delhi and its surrounding areas (NCR) during 18 and 19 September 2026. According to IMD, after mainly clear sky on September 18, it will be partly cloudy from afternoon to evening with very light to light showers, during which the maximum temperature will be recorded between 33 degrees Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius.
After this, the movement of clouds will continue on 19th and 20th September, while the weather is expected to clear completely from 21st September. In these coming days, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 34 to 36 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be around 22 to 24 degrees Celsius.
