Read Desk. Sangeeta Sornalingam, wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief C. Joseph Vijay, has withdrawn her divorce petition filed in the Chengalpattu court. On Friday, Sangeeta attended the proceedings via video-conferencing and withdrew the petition.
Sangeetha filed for divorce from Vijay in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, in February this year, seeking annulment of the marriage. The hearing in the case has been postponed several times. On June 15, Sangeeta indicated her intention to withdraw the petition and appeared via video conference.
Last month, the hearing was postponed because neither Vijay nor Sangeeta appeared in court; their lawyers appeared in their place.
What allegations did Sangeeta make in the petition?
Sangeetha alleged in the petition that she learned in 2021 that Vijay was allegedly in an extramarital relationship with an actress. She claimed that she was repeatedly assured that the relationship would end, but it continued. This caused her mental distress and gradually led to the breakdown of their marriage.
Sangita alleged that she and her children suffered mental distress and public embarrassment due to the actress’s social media posts with Vijay. She also claimed that Vijay distanced himself from the family and stopped providing emotional, physical, and financial support.
Sangita also alleged financial restrictions and said that her attempts to reconcile through legal notices and personal meetings were unsuccessful. Subsequently, she filed for divorce in the Chengalpattu court under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, seeking annulment of the marriage.
