‘That’s For My Girlfriend!’: Arshdeep Singh’s Viral Celebration After 4-Wicket Haul Has a Girlfriend Samreen Kaur Connection

Arshdeep Singh delivered an impressive performance in the first ODI against New Zealand on Wednesday, November 4, picking up four wickets to put India in a strong position. The left-arm pacer struck at regular intervals, although Blair Tickner managed to take him on with three consecutive sixes in the 38th over. However, it was Arshdeep’s unusual celebration after dismissing Kyle Jamieson for his third wicket in the 32nd over that caught everyone’s attention. Speaking after the match, the Indian pacer revealed which dismissal was his favourite and shared the story behind his celebration, even bringing his girlfriend into the conversation.

Arshdeep Singh Reveals Story Behind His Unique Celebration After Four-Wicket Haul Against New Zealand

During the innings break, Arshdeep revealed that the gesture had a personal connection, as it was dedicated to his girlfriend, Samreen Kaur. The Indian pacer explained that the celebration was inspired by a dance step he and Samreen often perform together. According to Arshdeep, it is their way of lifting each other’s spirits whenever either of them is feeling low. He opened up about the gesture during the mid-innings interaction, saying, “That’s for my girlfriend. We do these dance steps when we’re out walking or something like that. Whenever the mood is a little low, we cheer each other up with that celebration. So this was for her.”

Arshdeep was India’s standout performer with the ball, finishing with figures of 4/70 in his 10 overs. He picked up the wickets of Will Young, Henry Nicholls, Kyle Jamieson and Glenn Phillips, playing a major role in keeping New Zealand’s batting lineup under pressure. With Mohammed Siraj not featuring in the series opener, Arshdeep took responsibility as India’s lead left-arm seamer and delivered important breakthroughs at regular intervals.

When asked to pick his favourite wicket from the four, the 27-year-old had an interesting response. Rather than choosing one of the dismissals he had managed, Arshdeep jokingly pointed towards the wicket that got away from him. He said, “Favourite one would have been the fifth one, which I didn’t get. So I’m still searching for one.” His response reflected his desire to push for an even bigger contribution despite an already impressive outing.

Arshdeep Singh Opens Up About Eden Park Conditions After Impressive Four-Wicket Haul Against New Zealand

Arshdeep’s performance also put him among a select group of Indian fast bowlers to claim four wickets in an ODI in New Zealand. He enjoyed the conditions at Eden Park, particularly the assistance available for seam bowling. Speaking about the surface and weather, the pacer said, “Loving the weather here and there is good purchase off the surface. After coming from the subcontinent, when you get some life in the wickets, it’s always a pleasure to bowl here. And yeah, the wind is helping as well.”

Explaining India’s bowling approach, Arshdeep added, “I felt like there was something in the wicket, so we were just trying to hit the seam hard and try to get purchase off the surface. And they were trying some shots of that length, so we got the wickets.” His four-wicket haul was his second such performance in ODI cricket for India. While he missed out on a chance to become the first Indian pacer to claim an ODI five-wicket haul in New Zealand, Arshdeep’s spell proved crucial in India’s efforts to restrict the hosts.
