UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday . The two leaders discussed further strengthening bilateral relations. The conversation focused specifically on the situation in Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis there.
Discussion on cooperation and diplomacy
The Ukrainian President expressed gratitude for the UAE ‘s continued humanitarian assistance and diplomatic role in the Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchange. The two countries also agreed to expand economic and trade cooperation in various fields under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) . According to WAM , the need to maintain peace and security in the region was also emphasized.
Appointment of new ambassador to Ukraine
Another important event in this regard occurred on August 1, 2026. In Kyiv, Mohamed Matar Al-Khayli presented his credentials to the President of Ukraine and officially assumed the position of UAE Ambassador. This meeting also discussed future cooperation and further strengthening of mutual relations between the two countries.
