New York: Veteran Hollywood actor Vincent Pastore, best known for portraying Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero in HBO’s acclaimed crime drama The Sopranos, has passed away at the age of 80.
According to reports, Pastore was found dead at his residence in the Bronx, New York, after a neighbour, Stephen Villano, became concerned when he had not heard from the actor for several days. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Pastore earned worldwide recognition for his portrayal of mobster Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero in The Sopranos, one of television’s most celebrated crime dramas.
Although his character was killed off in the Season 2 finale, Pastore remained closely associated with the series throughout its six-season run from 1999 to 2007. His performance contributed to the show’s success, earning the cast a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2000, along with another nomination the following year.

Paying tribute, Pastore’s longtime manager Robert Attermann described him as far more than the unforgettable character he portrayed on screen.
“He loved being an actor. He was passionate about his craft and was always encouraging, respectful and generous with young actors,” Attermann said, adding that Pastore’s friendship, humour and loyalty would be deeply missed.

Born on July 14, 1946, in the Bronx, Pastore began his acting career in the late 1980s with a supporting role in the horror film Black Roses.
