The Indian women’s archery team created history by defeating the South Korean team in the gold medal match of the recurve event at the Asian Games 2026, winning India’s first gold medal in women’s team recurve archery. India’s trio of Kumkum Mohammad, Ankita Bhakt and Keerthini participated in the event, with the trio putting in a brilliant performance as they defeated the 10-time Olympic medalist South Korean women’s archery team by a 5-3 margin in the gold medal match.
The Indian women’s archery team defeated the Chinese team to secure their place in the gold medal match of the recurve event. They then faced the South Korean team, the best team in the world at the event. It was not an easy match for Team India, but Kumkum, Keerti and Ankita kept their composure and gave the South Korean team a tough fight in the first two sets, resulting in a close tie. The first set was a 54-54 draw, while the second set was a 54-54 draw.
The third set of the match proved to be crucial for the Indian team as they took full advantage of the poor play of South Korea’s world champion trio of Kang Chae-yong, Oh Yejin and Lee Eun-ji to defeat them by a margin of 55-52 and take a 4-2 lead in the match.All eyes then turned to the fourth set of the match in which the South Korean team scored 54 points to lead the Indian women’s recurve team to win the gold medal. The set ended in a draw or an outright win, with the Indian team winning the match by a margin of 5–3 after ending the set in a draw. For the first time, the women’s team managed to win a gold medal in the recurve event.
