Bhai Himmat Singh: A 17 year old youth.. who was born in Jagannathpuri in Orissa in the same caste as water carriers.. Guljari and mother’s wealth brought him up as a support in his old age. Yes, when the tenth Guru Guru Gobind Singh Ji established the Khalsa in 1699. He proved that even one’s life has no value in front of the Guru’s orders. We are talking about Bhai Himmat Singh Ji, who tasted Amrit for the first time from the hands of Guru Sahib and joined his five beloved ones. The foundation stone of the Khalsa Panth
In Orissa, the Jhawar community was considered a low caste people.. And where the evil practice of caste discrimination prevails, how can the Jhawar community remain untouched by that evil practice. Bhai Himmat Singh was born in the year 1661 in the same community. Bhai Himmat Singh grew up suffering from caste humiliation and discrimination. If you want to know about the tenth Guru Sahib, you cannot remain impressed by him. Bhai Himmat Singh, at the age of 17, he asked his parents to stay in the presence of Guru Sahib and serve him and spend his life at his feet. In the year 1978, Guru Sahib, seeing Bhai Himmat Singh’s devotion and loyalty towards the Guru, kept him in his presence.
The life and message of Bhai Himmat Singh Ji
He served them wholeheartedly. Living with Guru Sahib, Bhai Himmat Singh learned the Sikh martial tradition and spiritual egalitarianism. Guru Sahib had invited independent Sikh communities to come to Anandpur on Baisakhi to unite the people and decide their own fate. Hundreds of people gathered. Everything would have been normal, but suddenly Guru Sahib appeared among the community.

The first five Khalsa were called Panj Pyare.
From the crowd of thousands, first Bhai Daya Ram stood up, then Bhai Dharam Das stood up and Bhai Himmat Rai offered to sacrifice his head.. then Bhai Mohkam Chand and then Sahib Chand came forward. This incident is not a sacrifice in the true sense, it was only Guru Sahib’s test of the faithful Shibu. He tied a turban on everyone’s head.. then he himself put patasa and water in an iron vessel and gave you Amrit from the Khamda.. and made all five of them drink Amrit.. with this Amrit, all five of them were called the first Panj Pyare of Khalsa. Those commanders of the Khalsa on whose shoulders the protection of Sikhism had fallen. Bhai Himmat Rai got the name Bhai Himmat Singh after tasting Amrit.
Himmat Singh with great bravery preached Dharma in the areas around Anandpur. They fought with the royal generals and Sardars. But in December 1704, when Mughal generals Wazir Khan and Sher Mohammad Khan captured Guru Sahib at Anandpur Sahib, instead of retreating, the Sikhs of Sahib chose to fight the Mughals, Bhai Himmat was also there. 40 Sikhs attacked thousands of Mughals like a lion. During this time, Bhai Himmat Singh had the responsibility of saving Guru Sahib from the eyes of the Mughals and he fulfilled that responsibility very well.
Guru Sahib disguised himself as a Chamkaur warrior. However, along with Bhai Himmat Singh, two other five Sikhs, Bhai Mohkam Singh and Bhai Sahib Singh, were martyred fighting against the Mughals in the Battle of Chamkaur. All Sikhs consider Himmat Singh to be a brave and devoted brother to the Dharma, and he had such devotion that he would even get his head chopped off but would not hesitate. To honor Himmat Singh’s sacrifice and devotion to his Guru, the Bhai Himmat Memorial Children’s Park has been built in front of Gurdwara Aarti Sahib in Puri by the Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Dharmik and Dharm Bhai Trust.
