According to the report, this is the fastest spreading virus outbreak so far in the Central African country Congo. This is the second largest outbreak after the virus that spread in West Africa between 2014 and 2016, in which 11,310 people died. Also, WHO told X that it has donated 20 beds to local maternity wards to maintain essential health services. Apart from this, the organization has also trained 100 hygienists, 100 surveillance and IPC officers, 4 decontamination teams and 2 cremation teams. Additionally, WHO officials reiterated their resolve to mobilize all available resources to stop the spread of Ebola.
To strengthen frontline infrastructure, the World Health Organization has announced that the WHO-led treatment center in Lita, Congo, is being expanded, doubling its capacity to 80 beds from the initial 40 beds. Along with the Health Ministry, humanitarian partners like UNICEF, ALIMA, World Food Program and MONUSCO are also helping in this effort.
