In his letter, he has said that all CCTV footage, police videos, body-camera recordings and other electronic evidence will be kept safe until the investigation is completed. Amitabh Thakur has requested the Government of India to prepare a “National Protocol for Democratic Protests” that will be equally applicable to all governments and all political parties across the country.

This protocol talks about the rights and duties of peaceful protesters, rights, responsibilities and limitations of police and other law-enforcement agencies, clear procedures for use of force and detention, mandatory audio-video recording of significant police actions and provision of independent review of allegations of police excesses or other irregularities.
