There was chaos in Sri Lankan cricket, Shammi Silva’s insistence did not go before the President; All board members resigned

A sudden big change has been seen in Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Shammi Silva, who has been holding the post of president for a long time, has resigned from his post. The special thing is that along with him, the entire board also resigned together, due to which a big void has been created in the cricket administration. This decision has come at a time when the country’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was continuously talking about reforms in the board.

Decision taken under pressure from the President

According to sources, indications of changes in the cricket board were already visible from the government. In such a situation, Shammi Silva and his team collectively decided to step down. In a statement issued by the board, it was said that all the executive committee members including the chairman have stepped down from their posts and this information has been given to the government.

Preparation for formation of interim committee

After the resignations, the way has now been cleared for the formation of a new interim committee. It is believed that the government may soon appoint a temporary board, which will handle the cricket administration. There is also discussion of including some former players and experienced people in this new system, so that the process of improvement can move forward faster.

Was handling the responsibility since 2019

Shammi Silva assumed the post of president for the first time in the year 2019. After this, he completed several consecutive terms and maintained his hold on the board for a long time. In the initial phase, he was considered close to the old leadership, but with time he created his own identity.

Questions kept arising regarding performance

During his tenure, the Sri Lankan team did achieve some achievements, such as winning the Asia Cup, but the team’s performance was not consistently stable. Especially in ODI and T20 formats, the level of the team was seen falling. Disappointing performance in big tournaments also raised questions on the board.

Now everyone’s eyes are on what kind of decisions the new interim committee takes and whether it will be able to make Sri Lankan cricket strong again. At present this change is being seen as a big turning point in the cricket history of the country.
