1. Frequent urination problem
If you experience more frequent urination than usual, especially if you have to get up several times during the night, don’t dismiss it as simply a sign of aging. This could be an early sign of an enlarged prostate gland or a serious underlying condition. If this persists, it’s important to consult a doctor.
2. Difficulty starting or stopping urination
If it takes longer to urinate, the stream becomes weak, or you feel like you’re not completely emptying your urine, this could also be a sign of a prostate problem. In many cases, an enlarged prostate gland puts pressure on the urethra, causing these problems.
3. Blood in urine or semen
Blood in urine or semen is never considered normal. It could be due to a variety of causes, including infection, kidney stones, or even prostate cancer. If you experience these symptoms, consult a urologist immediately.
4. Persistent pain in the pelvic area or back
If pain in the lower back, hips, pelvic area, or thighs persists for a long time and doesn’t respond to standard treatment, it’s important to get it checked. In some cases, it may also be a sign of prostate cancer spreading.
5. Burning or pain when urinating
Burning, pain, or discomfort when urinating can often be linked to an infection, but if this problem occurs frequently or persists for a long time, it shouldn’t be taken lightly. A doctor can determine the exact cause after necessary tests.
Why is timely testing important?
Prostate cancer is often successfully treatable in its early stages. If persistent urinary problems, unusual pain, or any of the symptoms listed above persist, you should consult a doctor. If necessary, your doctor may recommend a PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test, a digital rectal examination (DRE), or other tests.
