A lifetime is spent waiting for government exams. Even if exams are held on time, the results are a long wait. Sometimes, jobs are found only after a long struggle in their later years. Delays in exams and subsequent results not only demoralize young people but also force them to struggle.
Thousands of young people in Uttar Pradesh are waiting for the final results of the Gram Panchayat Officer (GPO) exam. Candidate Ravi Pandey said he took the Gram Panchayat Officer (GPO) main exam last year. More than a year has passed, but the final results have not been released.
Ravi explained that the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission conducts a Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) once a year. Vacancies are announced based on students’ scores. Students are then shortlisted for the main exam. The Preliminary Eligibility Test was conducted in 2022. The results were announced in January 2023.

The recruitment for Gram Panchayat Officers was announced in May 2023. 1,468 positions were to be filled. 66,000 students were shortlisted for the main exam. However, the exam was not held for a long time. After protests, the main exam was held in April 2025.
Around 32,000 students participated. They explained that due to the delay in the exam, many students had abandoned their preparation. Some were selected elsewhere. This is why so few candidates participated in the main exam. After several months, the Commission released the results of the main exam on October 17, 2025. 6,113 students were cleared for document verification. The Commission conducted online document verification between April 7 and May 6, but the final results have not yet been released.
The dream of becoming a shooter is also being shattered.
24-year-old Ravi Pandey is a shooting player and has played in the Pre-State level. He qualified at the state level, but didn’t have the money to travel to Delhi. Ravi wants to win a medal for the country at the international level. However, his family’s financial situation hindered him, so he decided to fulfill his dream by securing a government job.
Coming from a very humble background, Ravi’s father is a farmer. The entire family depends on farming. He explains that shooting is an expensive sport, and its equipment is extremely expensive. He thought that by securing a government job, he would be able to do better for the country in shooting. However, with the results not being released for the past year, both his patience and his dreams are being shattered. He has been facing hardships.
Appealed to the Minister and the Deputy CM, but the Commission is not providing a clear response.
Like Ravi, Aditya Pratap Singh, a resident of Lakhimpur Kheri district, has a farmer father. He has been living in Lucknow for a long time to prepare. Aditya explains that he is the eldest in the family, and because of this, he has greater responsibilities. He thought he would clear the exam and get a posting before Holi. But he’s still awaiting the final result.
He says that coming from a middle-class family, it’s extremely difficult to prepare for long periods while living on rent in Lucknow. The students’ hopes and motivation are now waning due to the non-release of the final results.
He explained that the students met with Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak and Panchayat Raj Minister OP Rajbhar. He also visited the commission several times, but no one has yet provided a satisfactory answer. He says that vacancies such as Mandi Secretary, Agriculture Technical Assistant, and Auditor related to the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) held a year later in 2023 have been cleared, but recruitment related to the 2022 PET is still pending.
