To ensure that the body gets adequate protein, zinc, selenium and other nutrients, some easily available Indian items can be included in the daily diet. However, thyroid is not cured by diet alone and medicines should be taken only as per the doctor's advice.
1. Almonds and Walnuts
Magnesium, zinc and other essential nutrients are found in almonds and walnuts. These can be made a part of the daily diet in limited quantities. An easy option is to have some soaked almonds and a walnut in the morning.
2. Pumpkin and Sunflower Seeds
Zinc and good fats are found in these seeds. Zinc plays a role in the body's normal hormonal functions. These can be roasted and taken in small quantities with salad, curd or snacks.
3. Pulses
Pulses like moong, lentils, pigeon pea and gram provide protein, fiber and many essential nutrients. Consuming pulses in balanced quantity can improve the daily diet.
4. Curd or buttermilk
Curd and buttermilk have been a part of Indian cuisine. Nutrients like protein and calcium are found in them. Plain curd or buttermilk can be taken with lunch. If taking thyroid medicine, it is important to keep a proper gap between the medicine and calcium-rich foods.
5. Moong Dal
Moong dal is a good source of protein and fiber and can be eaten in many ways. Moong khichdi, dal, soup or cheela can be included in the daily balanced diet. Fiber rich food also helps in keeping digestion better.
