TMC MLA Madan Mitra narrowly escapes midnight attack in North 24 Parganas

West Bengal: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and MLA Madan Mitra narrowly escaped a violent midnight attack on Saturday after his vehicle was surrounded, vandalised, and pelted with eggs by an agitated mob in Kamarhati municipality’s Ward 14.

The incident occurred late at night when the Kamarhati MLA reached the area following reports of protests outside the residence of Ward 14 Councilor Arindam Biswas. Locals had been demonstrating since evening, alleging “cut money” and extortion against the councillor.

Mob Turns Aggressive, Vandalises MLA’s Vehicle

According to Mitra, the situation escalated rapidly when a crowd of around 100 to 150 people allegedly armed with iron rods, sticks, and sharp weapons surrounded his vehicle. The mob reportedly raised slogans of “chor chor” (thief, thief) and attacked the car.

The MLA stated that his driver was dragged out and assaulted, while the vehicle was vandalised and its windows smashed. Eggs were also thrown at the car during the attack.

“Saw Death in Front of My Eyes,” Says Madan Mitra

Mitra later went live on Facebook, describing the incident as a near-death experience. “I saw death right in front of my eyes,” he said while recounting the ordeal.

He said the attack lasted nearly an hour before he was rescued.

Locals and Councilor Allegedly Intervene to Rescue MLA

Mitra added that he was eventually saved after intervention by local women and councilor Arindam Biswas. He was reportedly taken to a dark room to hide from the mob until the situation was brought under control.

Viral Video Surfaces Online

A video purportedly showing the attack, including vandalism and egg-pelting, has surfaced on social media. However, its authenticity has not yet been independently verified.
