Sukhendu Shekhar Ray, in a statement issued regarding his resignation, has described the 15-year rule of Trinamool Congress as a rule of anarchy. According to the press release issued by him, “In the recently held West Bengal Assembly elections, the people have given an overwhelming mandate in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party. This is the first time in the history of the state. This mandate is to end the 15-year chaotic rule of the Trinamool Congress, which was born out of rampant corruption, atrocities against women and complete failure in sectors like health, education, industry, law and order and employment.”

Sukhendu Shekhar Ray further said in his statement, “Meanwhile, the newly elected government has started initiatives for the all-round development and reconstruction of West Bengal as per its election manifesto. Respecting this historic decision of the people, I have today resigned from the membership of the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) and the primary membership of the All India Trinamool Congress. ‘Vox Populi, Vox Dei’ (The voice of the people is the voice of God).”
