Tom Cruise debuts dramatic new look in dark comedy Digger trailer

Tom Cruise reminds fans of what he is capable of as an actor by wearing an unrecognisable look in his new role for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s comedy movie, Digger.

On Monday, July 13, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for its upcoming dark comedy, giving audiences a fresh look at Cruise as Digger, an eccentric oil tycoon determined to convince the world he is its only hope “before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything,” according to the official logline.

The preview begins with Digger frantically worrying about his cat before lashing out at an employee who suggests shutting down one of the company’s projects.

It soon becomes clear that the venture could trigger an $18 trillion catastrophe, forcing Digger to reinvent himself as humanity’s unlikely saviour.

Cruise first premiered the trailer for the  Iñárritu-directed film, which opens in cinemas on Oct. 2, during a Q&A event in Los Angeles on Thursday, July 9.

The Mission: Impossible star also recently joined TikTok to support the film’s promotional campaign.

Within days, he amassed more than 1.4 million followers, while the three Digger-related videos on his account have collectively surpassed 8 million views.
