There was a massive collision between a loading vehicle and a truck loaded with laborers late night on National Highway-79 in Gwalior. 8 people died and about 25 laborers were injured in the accident. All the injured have been admitted to the Trauma Center of Jai Arogya Hospital, Gwalior for treatment.
According to the police, the accident happened near Chinka at around 12 o’clock in the night. The laborers traveling in the loading vehicle are said to be residents of Uttar Pradesh. They had come to Chanor area of Dabra area to do paddy transplantation work. After completion of the work, all the workers were returning to their homes by vehicle. Meanwhile, a truck coming from the front hit the loading vehicle. The collision was so strong that the vehicle loaded with laborers overturned on the road. After the sudden accident, there was an outcry on the spot and chaos spread among the people present nearby.
Passersby pulled out the injured
As soon as information about the accident was received, the police reached the spot. Pedestrians and other motorists also helped in the rescue work. The people trapped in the crashed vehicle were taken out and sent to the hospital with the help of an ambulance. Many injured were brought on stretchers to the trauma center of Jai Arogya Hospital. Some had serious injuries on head and body. The team of doctors is treating all the injured. According to the police, the condition of some of the injured is critical, while the condition of many is currently stable.
Many dead are yet to be identified
Police officer Ram Mahesh Yadav said that many people have died in the accident. According to initial information, five people had died before reaching Gohad Hospital. After this, about three deaths were reported among the injured brought to Gwalior. However, the final death toll was still being confirmed. The official said that about 25 to 26 people injured in the accident have been taken to the hospital. Some people have not been identified yet and efforts are being made to contact their families. The police team is busy collecting the identities of the dead and injured.
Search and investigation of truck driver also
Police have taken the truck involved in the accident into their custody. There is also a possibility of injury to the truck driver and it is being investigated. The police is now trying to find out the circumstances under which the collision between the two vehicles took place. At present, relief and rescue work has been completed. The police is investigating all aspects related to the accident and efforts are on to provide better treatment to the injured.
