Can do without changing number portability
This feature was introduced in 2010. Mobile Number Portability (MNP) allows customers to change telecom operators without changing their existing mobile number. This feature was first launched in Haryana on 25 November 2010 and then expanded nationwide on 20 January 2011. On 3 July 2015, inter-LSA MNP was launched across the country, allowing customers to retain their mobile number even after shifting from one licensed service area to another.
Users suffering from poor network and expensive plans?
The TRAI report does not explain why such a large number of mobile numbers are being ported. However, according to market experts and reports, the ongoing network and tariff war between telecom companies is the reason behind the high number of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests in the country. Jio and Airtel are rapidly expanding 5G in the country. Meanwhile, consumers are moving from one provider to another in search of better network coverage and lower cost plans. Vodafone Idea ( Vi ) has been facing network issues and delays in the 5G rollout, prompting many of its customers to switch to Jio or Airtel.
