Transformer caught fire in Lucknow’s Duda Colony, shop damaged; Electricity and fire department under investigation
On Monday morning around 3 am, a wagon car was completely destroyed due to a sudden fire in an electricity transformer at Duda Colony Road in Lakhnauer Pada police station area and a nearby shop also got damaged. No casualties were reported in the incident.
At night, while most of the people were sleeping, they suddenly heard a sound like an explosion and the local residents came out and saw that a tall flame was coming out of the transformer and flowers were spreading all around. Within a short time the fire spread further. The heat of the fire was so high that the people around it moved away to a safe distance.
Within a short time, a lightning bolt connected to the transformer fell on a WagonR car parked below. As soon as he finished reading, the car caught fire and within a few minutes the entire car was engulfed in flames. According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread so quickly that there was no chance to move the car. Some tried to put out the fire by pouring water, but due to the current flowing in the transformer and the fire increasing, no one could go near.
Local residents should simultaneously inform the electricity department and fire department. Meanwhile the fire engulfed the car completely. WagonR is completely filled in about 10 minutes. The engine, body, tires and all the contents of the car are destroyed and it becomes just an iron structure.
The flame of fire also reaches a nearby shop. Some items kept outside and inside the shop get caught in the fire. Local residents try to stop the fire from spreading further inside the shop, but some products get damaged. As a result, shop owners suffered financial losses. But the fire came under control in time and other shops and houses nearby caught fire.
On receiving the news, the fire brigade reached the spot and first switched off the power supply and started extinguishing the fire. After long efforts the transformer and vehicle fires were brought under complete control. Had the fire spread for some more time, it could have engulfed other vehicles and residential buildings nearby.
After the incident, electricity department officials reached the spot and started checking the workmanship of the transformer. Initially it is believed that the fire may have occurred due to technical fault or short circuit. But the real reason will be confirmed only after detailed investigation. The department has started inspection of damaged transformers and power lines, so that such incidents can be prevented from recurring in future.
According to local residents, many of the transformers installed in the area are old and the load on them is more than their carrying capacity. During summer, the demand for electricity increases and the pressure on transformers also increases. Despite their complaint, the issue of sparking and overloading was reported to the electricity department several times, necessary repairs were not done in time. They believe that such incidents can be prevented if regular inspection and maintenance is done.
At the time of the incident the residents of the colony became frightened. Many people came out of the house late at night after hearing sounds like fire and explosion. Many families moved to safe places with children and elders. There was a fear that a major explosion could occur in the transformer. The situation becomes normal after the fire is completely under control and power supply is stopped.
Due to the incident, electricity supply to the area is disrupted. In the interest of safety, the power connection of the respective feeder has been disconnected and there remains power cut for some time in many areas of the state. Officials said power supply will be normalized after replacement of damaged components and line repair. At the same time, if you see any stray electricity, you have been asked to stay away from that place and immediately inform the department.
Local residents have appealed to the administration and electricity department to inspect the workmanship of the old transformers in the colony. According to him, many transformers are old and are prone to errors due to increasing power load. They demanded regular maintenance, scheduled inspection and installation of new transformers if necessary.
At present there is no news of any casualty in this incident. However, one car was completely destroyed and a nearby shop was damaged. The fire department, electricity department and local administration are investigating the incident. Investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the transformer fire and what additional safety measures are required to prevent such incidents in future. Local residents are hopeful that after the investigation, responsibility will be fixed and necessary steps will be taken to make the electricity system more secure.
