Triumph Motorcycles has unveiled its new race engine, which will be used in the Moto2 World Championship from the 2027 season. The company claims that this new engine will deliver around 6 percent more peak power than the current engine. Along with this, extensive changes have been made to the engine’s internals, cooling and air intake system.
Triumph has focused on increasing the airflow into the cylinders. This has been achieved by using a completely redesigned cylinder head, low-inertia valvetrain, higher-flow ports and a revised combustion chamber. These changes have helped increase the compression ratio, which has enabled increased torque across the entire rev range.
The crankcase and other internals have been redesigned to handle the increased power and torque. Triumph has clarified that the overall weight of this engine has been reduced by 2 kg despite the increased performance. The exact technical specifications of the engine are being kept under wraps for now and the company will announce them later.

Changes will have to be made to the chassis
This engine upgrade will require chassis manufacturers for the Moto2 to develop a completely new chassis for 2027. In particular, major changes will be required to the location of the air intake and engine mounting points. Triumph has said that the technical information required for this has been provided to chassis manufacturers for the last 12 months.
The new engine will soon be made available to Moto2 teams, with private testing already underway. It is expected to make its track debut later this year, ahead of its official entry into the championship in 2027.

The relationship between Moto2 and Triumph
Triumph has been the sole engine supplier to the Moto2 World Championship since 2019. All Moto2 bikes currently use a 765cc, 3-cylinder engine, which is based on Triumph’s Street Triple RS road bike.
In addition to being the sole engine supplier, Triumph has also amassed a vast amount of data over the years. Triumph has accumulated a total of 19,26,132 km of racing data and extensive feedback from riders and teams. Triumph and MotoGP have now extended their partnership in Moto2 until 2029.
